DDA
The Disability Discrimination Act comes into full force in October 2004. It requires reasonable provision to be made for equal opportunities for disabled people except where it affects the safety of others. The Act also applies to places where children play (play areas, games area etc). It is illegal to treat disabled persons any less favourably than non-disabled persons.
Compliance
What you must do is to take all reasonable measures, bearing in mind safety of other users, to make your play area as suitable for disabled children as possible. However, compliance with the Act doesn’t automatically produce a good “user friendly” design. Although many UK playground equipment providers pay lip service to accessible play, none has Playworld’s years of experience, specialist skills, wholehearted commitment, and, particularly, a total design philosophy.
